Recent Statements by Some Parties Disturbing
MP Misbah Ahdab warned that Lebanon could face another round of assassinations after the heated political rhetoric “certain parties” had been engaging in. He called on all political parties to “act wisely during this difficult period.”
After receiving several popular delegations visiting him to celebrate Eid Adha at his home in Tripoli on Monday, Ahdab said, “those who are demanding the amendment of the Taif Agreement from Damascus seem to be asking for the Syrian support [to accomplish their demand]…knowing that this agreement was not applied properly due to the Syrian presence [at the time] in Lebanon.”
Ahdab said he feared “a huge event in the country following the statements of some politicians who warned about assassinations.”
He said that “Syria has given the west assurances concerning its actions against Lebanon but what we see is that their actions are opposite to their promises.”
He went on to say that Syria “is not dealing with the Lebanese state but with parties and certain figures at the expense of the state and the presidency’s dignity, and this is not acceptable for all the Lebanese.”
