Strengthening the Domestic Situation to Face Any Threat Is Priority
Interior Minister Ziad Baroud said that the Internal Security Forces would make every effort to avoid any “terrorist actions.” He added that people should be neither frightened nor complacent with regard to terrorism.
In an interview with al-Ousbou al-Arabi and Magazine on Thursday, Baroud said that there was full cooperation between security services, and he called for strengthening the domestic situation to face any threat. He also called for making equipping and increasing the manpower of the ISF a priority.
Baroud said that he expected that cooperation between Palestinian factions and ISF would lead to positive results.
He said that the legal commitment to holding the 2009 parliamentary elections was connected to the accompanying political and security atmosphere in Lebanon, and he added that he did not expect the Special Tribunal investigating the Hariri assassination to take any decisive measures before the elections.
Baroud said that it was crucial to reconsider security agreements between Lebanon and Syria. “Security coordination between both countries has not stopped even at the peak of conflict,” he said, before welcoming any amendment that reinforced the privileges of the president, as the protector of the constitution.
