Christians Refuse To Be Granted Their Rights by Syria
Deputy Head of the Kataeb party branch in Ashrafieh, Nadim Gemayel, said that Lebanese Christians and residents of Ashrafieh in particular, refused to be granted their rights by the Syrian regime. He added that they would only be able to assert their rights through upholding unity.
In a public meeting on Friday night in Rmeil in Ashrafieh, he said that he supported visits to Syria only if they served Lebanon and noted that the public did not considered that recent visits to Damascus served Lebanese interests.
He emphasized the importance of being optimistic despite the challenges facing Lebanon, which included a deteriorating security, social and economic situation. He said that his party supported coexistence but some parties tried to attack “our Christian identity and culture.”
Gemayel called for restricting weapons to legitimate military institutions in order to preserve Lebanon’s freedom and sovereignty.
