Syria Seeking Control of Lebanon’s Decisions
Lebanese Forces bloc MP Elie Keyrouz addressed the parliament on Wednesday and said that Lebanon was facing a renewed Syrian attempt to control Lebanese decisions. He added that Syria was trying to build relations [with Lebanon] at the expense of the country, its institutions and presidency.
He also said that the Syrian regime had, directly and indirectly, announced that it wanted to replace the majority in Lebanon with one that complies with the Syrian interests. There was a full Syrian plan to control Lebanon, he added, and called on the cabinet to be aware of and approve any visit to be made to Syria.
He also called for cancelling the Lebanese-Syrian Brotherhood and Cooperation agreement.
Keyrouz said that in the coming parliamentary elections, Lebanon would be at a crossroad between two strategies; one supported Lebanese state projects, the other, foreign projects that aimed to turn Lebanon into a follower or a battlefield.
“There is a critical security situation in the North. The state should not wait for accidents to happen then interfere after victims fall. Weapons are present with different party partisans and even in their offices,” Keyrouz concluded.
