Ministers of Communications and Interior, respectively Gebran Bassil and Ziad Baroud signed a memo on setting up a center to combat the illegal monitoring of communications.
Bassil told a press conference several intelligence agencies monitor communications in Lebanon.
He said the center would be partially operational in three months, covering cellular communications.
The system would be fully operational in six months.
Bassil said he would prepare a new bill in cooperation with Baroud and Defense Minister Elias Murr to legalize the new center that aims at protecting "privacy of Lebanese citizens."
