Hajj Refrains from Appearing in Court to Confront Fatah Islam Suspect

Brig. Gen. Ali Hajj, former chief of internal security forces who is charged with involvement in the 2005 assassination of former Premier Rafik Hariri, has refrained from appearing in court to confront leading Fatah al-Islam suspect Ahmed Merhi.

Hajj refused to go to court in handcuffs, the daily An Nahar said Friday.
Prosecutor Saqr Saqr has decided to set another hearing.

Another officer, Brig. Gen. Jamil Sayyed, who is also facing charges of involvement in the Hariri crime, has six times refrained from appearing in court to confront Merhi.

Saqr had already set another hearing for Sayyed.
