Third Session of the National Dialogue Roundtable Is Held

President Michel Sleiman opened the third session of the national dialogue roundtable on Monday in Baabda Palace with a briefing on the domestic, regional and international developments and called for supporting the constitution’s works and unifying ranks in the face of upcoming challenges.

After the session was adjourned, a statement was issued where participants called on their parties to reduce political and media-exacerbated tensions to serve civil peace and Lebanon’s interests.

The outcomes of the dialogue included the formation of an expert military committee to study the defense strategies proposed in an effort to find common grounds among the different parties and reach a unified national defense strategy. MP Michel al-Murr said participants in national dialogue did not discuss foreign military aid to Lebanon, and the dialogue was restricted to the defense strategy.

Participants decided to reconvene on January 22, 2009 for the next session.
