Unresolved Issues Make Syrian Visit Impossible
Lebanese Forces MP Strida Geagea hailed Maronite Patriarch Nasrallah Sfeir’s position of nationalism throughout the last 18 years.
After visiting Sfeir along with an LF delegation on Wednesday to greet him on Christmas, Geagea said that they discussed the national defense strategy proposed by LF leader Samir Geagea during the national dialogue session on Monday and the delegation provided Sfeir with a copy.
Geagea said that the content of Sfeir’s Christmas letter expressed the view of the LF as a political party engaged in the Lebanese political scene. Geagea said that the delegation also discussed the 2009 parliamentary elections.
Geagea said that diplomatic exchange between Lebanon and Syria was a big accomplishment, however, she added, there were still unresolved issues including Lebanese detainees in Syrian prisons and border demarcation. “As long as these issues are unresolved, our visit as LF to Syria is impossible,” he said.
Concerning the criticism on Geagea’s defense strategy, she called for circulating the entire text so it may be read by all parties for discussion.
