Hizbullah Renews Attempt to Expand Conference on National Dialogue
Hizbullah is spearheading a campaign by minority forces to renew demands for expanding the list of participants in the conference on national dialogue that is sponsored by President Michel Suleiman.
The daily as-Safir said representatives of minority forces are expected to hold a meeting "in the coming days" to consider activating the traditional demand for adding more participants to the 14 leaders taking part in national dialogue.
It said minority representatives would then meet Suleiman to pursue the effort.
Meanwhile, the head of Hizbullah”s Parliamentary Bloc Mohammed Raad told as-Safir the party "awaits activation of agreed upon efforts to expand participation in dialogue under the auspices of President Suleiman."
Press reports said Raad would probably meet Suleiman at the Baabda Palace later in the day Saturday, presumably to follow up the issue.
The minority had called for expanding the list of participants in the Conference on National Dialogue to include allies and rally support for its concept of a defense strategy.
The majority, however, had rejected the call, terming it a breach of the Doha Accord that called for "resumption" of dialogue that was interrupted by the 2006 war between Hizbullah and Israel.
