Scattered Violence in Sidon Wounds Six People

Six people were wounded in scattered acts of violence in the southern provincial capital of Sidon as army troops contained mounting tension in the coastal city.

Police said three people –two Syrian brothers and a Lebanese man- were wounded in a quarrel in which daggers and sticks were used.
Army troops intervened and contained the spreading violence, erecting checkpoints.

A Lebanese police officer driving his private car failed to stop at an army checkpoint. Soldiers opened fire wounding him in the head.

Another vehicle also failed to stop at an army checkpoint. Troops opened fire during a chase and arrested the driver, but two people were wounded by stray bullets.
