Targeting Siniora on Compensation Issue for Electoral Aims
Finance Minister Mohammad Chateh told the Voice of Lebanon radio station on Saturday that the political targeting of Prime Minister Fouad Siniora, regarding the issue of compensation for people affected by the 2006 July War, was occurring for several reasons and with electoral considerations in mind.
Chateh said that Lebanon had been paying for suspicious rockets found near its borders for 40 years and it was unacceptable that it paid for them for another 40 years.
Chateh added that the decision to instill a calm atmosphere, which was adopted during the national dialogue session, was not enough and that Lebanon should be protected from “adventures” that some parties could carry out.
The economic situation in Lebanon and the Arab region was difficult, he said, adding that it was difficult to convince Lebanese and others to invest in the country. “Our aim is to find serious and convincing reasons to create an atmosphere for investment,” he said.
