States Inability of Securing the South to Prevent Lebanon’s Implication in Gaza Crisis Regrettable
Minister of Finance Mohammad Chatah told Free Lebanon radio station on Saturday that President Michel Sleiman and all political parties did not intend to drag South Lebanon into a new military confrontation, especially since the country endured the 2006 July War. This matter would ensure the protection and safety of Lebanon, he added.
Chatah emphasized the importance of revealing the identity of those who attempted to engage Lebanon by placing missiles in South Lebanon, which were found two weeks ago near the town of Naqoura. Chatah expressed shock toward the flow of weapons in Lebanon.
He regretted that state authorities were incapable of securing the situation sufficiently enough, in order to prevent the exploitation of present tensions in southern Lebanon or in the Gaza Strip, in an attempt to drag Lebanon into a new war.
He added that the Lebanese people were determined to improve their political, security and economic situations.
