Geagea Stresses Importance of Unified Arab Stance on Gaza
Lebanese Forces Executive Council leader Samir Geagea stressed the importance of unifying the Arab position on Gaza, before Arab leaders speak before the United Nations Security Council.
In an interview with al-Markazia news agency on Monday, Geagea said “the delay in stopping the aggression is (because of) the confusion in the Arab position.”
He called on the Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak to “overcome all the attacks on his person and country in the recent days and to play a central role, with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and all the Arab countries, to reach a ceasefire as soon as possible.”
On the possibility of Lebanon’s becoming involved in the Gaza war, Geagea said that he did not mind Lebanese parties adopting their own visions and positions, but he said they should be discussed within the cabinet as it represents all parties.
Geagea said, however, that it was “unacceptable for any Lebanese party to control the Lebanese state and the whole of the Lebanese people.”
He welcomed the position of Hezbollah’s leadership during the 10-day conflict. He added that the Lebanese army was deployed in the South and would confront any attempt to breach security and prevent any party from dragging the country and the region into conflict.
