Syrian Sympathizers Will Lose Elections

Lebanese Forces MP Antoine Zahra said that he was pleased by the success which March 14 would achieve in Batroun during the 2009 parliamentary elections.

He said that his certainty stemmed from March 14 alliance’s clear political project in the area over the last four years. Zahra said that March 14 has continued the Independence Revolution and has been serious in the crucial issues without any neglect of development and services issues.

In an interview with al-Mustaqbal daily on Tuesday, Zahra said that anyone who expressed sympathy with Syria would lose the elections because those who want sovereignty were clear on this issue.

Zahra said that the claims made by Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun’s during his electoral campaign in the 2005 parliamentary elections were no longer plausible. He said that many of the residents of Batroun and were no longer blindfolded.

Zahra stressed the strong and active presence of the LF, MP Boutros Harb and the March 14 alliance and downplayed the electoral weight of Marada Movement Leader Sleiman Franjieh, whom, he added, “lost many privileges after the end of the Syrian occupation in April 2005.”

He said that the electoral battle would define the voters’ will in determining, “which Lebanon they want.”
