Resistance Arms Underline Defensive Nature
Progressive Socialist Party leader Walid Jumblat voiced fear over the situation in south Lebanon in the wake of Thursday”s Katyusha attack on northern Israel "because uncontrolled weapons could give Israel … an additional pretext to launch an offensive against southern Lebanon and against Lebanon."
Jumblat described as "very positive" Hizbullah”s announcement that the Shiite group had nothing to do with the rocket firing.
Hizbullah”s announcement "also confirms that the resistance arms are of a defensive nature to confront any (possible) Israeli assault," Jumblat said in remarks published in Beirut dailies Friday.
He said he believed the Gaza events would eventually lead to the recognition of Hamas as a "key negotiator" in Mideast peace talks.
Jumblat called for settling the issue of the "so-called Palestinian arms … which pose a danger to Lebanon”s security."
