March 14 Forces Question the Extent of Harmony Between Military and Cabinet Position Concerning Missiles Incident

March 14 Forces questioned the wording of the Lebanese military communiqué concerning the rockets fired on Thursday from Lebanon towards Israel.

The parliamentary majority bloc drew attention to phrase in the communiqué that said, "The launching of the rockets coincided with the Israeli artillery shelling,"

March 14 Forces Secretariat-General issued a statement on Friday following a meeting that paid tribute to the cabinet consensus saying it reflected a positive indication for settling future issues.

The statement went on to praise the sovereign state position that rejects using Lebanon as a platform for launching rockets, as that could provide Israel with an excuse to retaliate and hurt the interests of Lebanon, Palestine and the Arabs.

March 14 supported the government in committing to U.N. Security Council resolution 1701.

The statement called on government to implement all that was agreed to at the 2006 national dialogue, in particular issues dealing with Palestinian arms.

"UNSCR 1860 constitutes the proper means for ending the war in Gaza," the statement said. It described the resolution as an Arab achievement in succeeding the prevention of postponing an international resolution.

"The adoption of this resolution forced a majority consensus by U.N. Security Council and reaffirmed the international community”s commitment to the Arab peace initiative," statement said.

The statement paid tribute to the efforts of Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the Palestinian Authority in "regaining the initiative against regional and Arab parties that are working on dismantling the Arab world, and against Israel."
