I Won”t Back Anyone Who Can”t Be Head of Municipality
Free Patriotic Movement leader Gen. Michel Aoun has urged all those who don”t have a chance to win the parliamentary elections to withdraw their candidacies because he won”t back anyone who has limited capabilities.
"Those who have announced their candidacies and don”t have a chance to win (they should) withdraw because I won”t support anyone who can”t (even) become head of municipality," Aoun told a visiting delegation from the Engineering Alumni Association.
"Or else I could take technocrats and support them" because they would be more useful later, he said.
"We welcome all FPM friends who want to announce their candidacies under three conditions: First they should harmonize with colleagues, second they should support change and reform and third they should have the biggest chance among their colleagues to win the elections," Aoun said.
He accused "some candidates of spending money."
"We don”t know the source of the money," the head of parliament”s Change and Reform Bloc told his guests.
Aoun stressed that there was no centrist candidate. "A centrist is the one who wants to bargain so that he could take advantage of" the situation, he said.
"We provide services to the public and you as the elite should support this development in our society so that the right choices are made," he told the engineers.
Aoun believed that bad performance in public institutions has increased.
There are "examples of government performance … but it is not the right time to open files," he said.
