Mitri criticizes UNSC 1860
In an interview with Saudi daily Okaz on Monday, Information Minister Tarek Mitri criticized United Nations Security Council Resolution 1860 and said that it was “ambiguous” concerning a ceasefire and an Israeli withdrawal from Gaza.
Mitri said that one could not compare UNSCR 1860 to UNSCR 1701, “because what happened in July was an attack on an independent state that controls around 99% of its territories, with the exception of the Shebaa Farms.”
The minister said committing Israel to the resolution remained unclear. He said that Hamas was not ready to accept it in the short run. However, he added, this did not mean the resolution was unimportant. “It came as a result of Arab diplomatic pressures,” he said.
