The decision of Peace or war is still in Hezbollah’s hand
Kataeb leader Amin Gemayel has said decisions of war and peace in Lebanon were still made by Hezbollah, who was merely playing along with the state.
In an interview with the Kuwaiti al-Seyassah daily on Thursday, Gemayel said the Party of God’s interests compelled it to adapt with the situation, even if its convictions dictated otherwise. Hezbollah, Hamas and al-Qaeda were organizations that only believe in the use of force even at the expense of people’s lives, he added. “These organizations do not admit systems, constitutions or international regulations,” he said.
Gemayel said that such organizations carried out operations – such as launching rockets from South Lebanon into North Israel – to instigate crises and wars. Gemayel said if the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine – General Command was proven to be connected to attacks, then the Syrian regime should be questioned and answers provided to the Lebanese state.
Gemayel said that Lebanese solidarity to protect Lebanon was crucial to avoid dragging it into an “unreasonable” position. He called on Arabs to take a unified and responsible stance toward what was happening in Gaza and urged the international community to reactivate its role in implementing UN Security Council Resolution 1860.
