Israel Offensive on Gaza Horrifying and Inhumane
March 14 General Secretariat coordinator Fares Soueid slammed the “horror and inhumanity” of the Israeli offensive on Gaza.
Soueid also accused the Iranian and Syrian regimes of seeking to position themselves as negotiators with the new American administration.
Iran, Syria and “the so-called Arab regime” were also trying to take over the management of pre-positioning US President-elect Barack Obama.
In an interview with the Kuwaiti daily As-Siyassah, Soueid said the situation in Palestine was different from that of the 2006 July War in Lebanon. Hamas was trying to usurp the position of Arab negotiators and the Palestinian Authority.
Soueid said Syria, which is currently president of the Arab Summit, claimed to protect Hezbollah in Lebanon and Hamas in Palestine and had set a date for an Arab Summit without consulting who could attend. The former MP said Syria, and not “the Arab regime,” were therefore guilty of collusion.
Soueid also said he believed the situation in Lebanon was “better than ever” for two reasons: first, because Syria had decided to negotiate with Israel, and secondly because of UN Security Council Resolution 1701. “What scares me is Syrian-Iran discrepancy,” he said.
