Protesters Try to Storm U.S. Embassy in Beirut
Security forces used tear gas to disperse anti-Israeli protesters who tried to force their way through the barbed wire near the U.S. Embassy in Awkar.
Some 200 demonstrators, waving Lebanese and Palestinian flags, demanded the expulsion of the U.S. ambassador to Lebanon.
They were protesting against Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip which have killed more than 1,200 Palestinians since Dec. 27.
Security forces first used water hoses to disperse the protesters but shortly afterward fired several tear gas bombs.
