Elections Will Determine Who Governs
MP Boutros Harb said that that the upcoming parliamentary elections would define who would govern and who would be the opposition, after the failure of the current cabinet that included all the political factions.
He expressed his fear that the current minority might not adopt democratic methods or might obstruct the institutions and protest under one claim or another, if it does not win the majority of the seats.
In a statement on Monday, Harb said that the March 14 alliance would not announce its candidates on February 14. Harb assured he would be working with a March 14 candidate in Batroun, most probably a Lebanese Forces or a Kataeb candidate. He also said there would be no third candidate for March 14 there.
Regarding the accusations against March 14 about using electoral money in Batroun, Harb clarified that helping people did not necessarily mean buying their votes, because the alliance respected all democratic principles, adding he would announce, when the time is right, the true identity of those exercising bribery.
On the neutral bloc issue, he affirmed President Michel Sleiman’s position, which was one of non-intervention in the elections to support any party against another, and expressed surprise toward Change and Reform bloc leader MP Michel Aoun’s attack against the neutral bloc.
