Jumblat Fears impeding of Hariri Tribunal, Phone-Tap
Progressive Socialist party leader Walid Jumblat was concerned that some sides would consider hindering the work of the international tribunal to try suspects in the 2005 assassination of ex-Premier Rafik Hariri and related crimes.
Jumblat also expressed concern over the establishment of a new wiretap monitoring department at the ministry of telecommunications which he said "could aim at bugging calls and blocking efforts by the International Commission probing the Hariri crime."
"Do they want to block the international tribunal?" he asked.
Telecommunications Minister Jibran Bassil retorted that "what is happening is a center to detect phone calls."
A well-informed source told the daily Al Liwaa that the PSP would follow up reports on the matter "to make sure there are no bad intentions aimed at blocking the international tribunal."
