Siniora Calls for Palestinian and Arab Unity
Prime Minister Fouad Siniora emphasized the importance of Palestinian and Arab unity as he spoke at the Grand Serail on Saturday on the occasion of Gaza solidarity day.
“The Palestinian people everywhere in the world need Palestinians to unite to be able to rebuild what was demolished by the aggression,” Siniora said, adding that remaining divided politically was actually doing the “greatest service” to Israel.
He also emphasized the importance of Arab unity, reaffirming Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdel Aziz’s “refusal [to allow] differences between us, for the sake of our brothers, the Palestinians.”
“I say to our brothers, the Palestinian refugees, that we will work as hard as we can for them to return to their country,” he said, asking the Lebanese people to show all possible means of solidarity with the Palestinians.
“We must launch the reconstruction of Gaza,” he said
Siniora also called on the new American administration to work to find a just solution in the region on the basis of the Arab Peace Initiative.
Israel has not learned from past wars, Siniora said, emphasizing “that violence only begets violence.”
He also posed the following question to Israel: “Is the problem solved in Gaza? Or has it been made worse by this brutal aggression? Have you been able to break the will of the Palestinian people?”
