MTV Resumes Broadcasting March 31

MTV”s chairman of the board Michel Gabriel Murr announced on Wednesday that the station will resume broadcasting on March 31 after a seven-year interruption.

The TV network "never died and we paid a high price. It would become the voice of the silent majority," Murr said during a press conference held at the station”s headquarters in Naccache, north of Beirut.

MTV network would appear on the screen after more than seven years of interruption by a court order issued during Syrian hegemony over Lebanon.

Murr said the launching of the station has nothing to do with elections. "We wanted to resume broadcasting in 2006."

The station will go on air through its own capabilities and won”t be funded by anyone, he stressed. "We are not the voice of March 8 or March 14 forces. MTV remains on the same line and we will be neutral."

"We will see familiar faces because we chose people capable of making the station successful," Murr said.

Veteran TV journalist Walid Abboud, who has resigned his current post with LBC, told Naharnet last week that he would have his own talk show on MTV screen in addition to managing the news department.
