Marini Praises Lebanese Leaders for “High Sense of Responsibility”
French envoy to Lebanon Philippe Marini said that he perceived “a high sense of responsibility among the different leaderships and Lebanese officials.”
After meeting with Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea at Maarab on Wednesday, Marini said, “France is a cornerstone in international diplomacy … and it is of utmost importance peace process be mobilized the again. We are thinking seriously of ways to contribute…in this regard…The dialogue in Lebanon is similar to an infant who needs a lot of care to flourish.”
“Despite the difficulties that Lebanon has been through and managed to overcome, Lebanon is present on the international arena and we hope it restores its diverse image,” he said, adding that “Lebanon is a laboratory to express views and can be a good image for the democratic concepts.”
Marini also met with Free Patriotic Movement leader Michel Aoun in Rabiyeh, and later with Maronite Patriarch Nasrallah Sfeir, with whom he discussed the role of the Christian community in the Middle East and the political situation in Lebanon in the run-up to the parliamentary elections in June.
