Clinton: US committed to Lebanon”s security
New US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said on Thursday that Washington is committed to Lebanon”s security, according to Prime Minister Fuad Siniora”s office.
"Clinton telephoned Siniora today and said the US administration and President Barak Obama are committed to the independence and security of Lebanon," it said in a statement. Siniora "stressed the need for a new approach by Obama towards the Middle East as well as solutions to help end the Israeli occupation and create an independent Palestinian state," it added.
US envoy George Mitchell is currently on his first regional tour to cement a fragile ceasefire after Israel”s war on Hamas in the Gaza Strip that has killed more than 1,300 Palestinians.
