How Can Transparent Elections With Wiretapping Be Held?
Minister of Tourism Elie Marouni said in an interview with the Voice of Lebanon radio station on Sunday that it was necessary to open an investigation of the wiretapping issue as soon as possible because “people’s lives can’t be in the hands of any minister.”
He called on the security and judicial services to solve this case and threatened to withdraw the vote of confidence from any minister who “does not accomplish his duties and risks the safety of citizens.”
“How shall we run the up-coming parliamentary elections freely and transparently when our moves are tracked and phone calls registered?” he asked.
He added that some sources were talking about security threats against some ministers and candidates.
Marouni commented on the calls for providing 150 billion LL for the Council for South, questioning whether the cabinet was ensuring the right of the families affected since 1975, in addition to those affected by the 2006 July War.
He concluded that he was preparing a study on Council for South to be proposed during cabinet meetings.
