Iran, Not Hizbullah, Should Follow Up the Fate of Its Missing Diplomats

Progressive Socialist Party leader Walid Jumblat on Monday said the issue of missing Iranian diplomats should be handled by Iran through diplomatic channels.

Jumblat, in an editorial to be published by the PSP”s weekly magazine al-Anbaa, said the Taef Accord had "closed the file of those who went missing in the war."

He was responding to a call by Hizbullah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah to the Lebanese Cabinet to handle the issue of four Iranian diplomats who went missing during Israel”s 1982 invasion of Lebanon.

Jumblat said the whereabouts of the four missing Iranians should be followed up "exactly as the whereabouts of Lebanese citizens missing in Syria also should be followed up."

He also criticized efforts to "block the Council for South Lebanon, because it leads to blocking the whole state budget."

Jumblat criticized calls by Hamas to form a new Palestine Liberation Organization, saying the only hope for the Palestinians is in their own unity.
