It Is Necessary To Abolish So-Called Unity Government
After a meeting between MP Boutros Harb and US Ambassador to Lebanon Michelle Sisson on Monday, Harb said that he explained to Sisson “the importance of securing a democratic atmosphere for the coming elections,” so that the Lebanese can elect their representatives free of coercion.
He said that “it is necessary to abolish the so-called unity government”, which has undermined the government’s executive authority.
Harb asked, “How can we carry on the elections in the absence of the Constitutional Council?”
He said, “if we [March 14 alliance] emerge as the minority [after the elections], we will not participate in the cabinet and will not accept to share the cabinet if we emerge as the majority.”
They also discussed the latest domestic and regional developments as well as the new US President Barack Obama’s initiatives in the Middle East.
