Jumblatt Demands Firing Officer Posted In Telecom Ministry
In an interview with Ad-Diyar daily on Tuesday, Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblatt called for dismissing the Lebanese Armed Forces officer currently posted at the Telecommunications Ministry.
Jumblatt said it would have been better for a number of ministers not to issue statements contradicting what they had said during Monday’s meeting on wiretapping in the Grand Serail, which ministerial, judicial and security personnel attended.
He added, “The truth had been revealed.”
Jumblatt said Monday’s meeting had a positive outcome, as it adopted a mechanism to implement Law N⁰ 140. The law included transforming the wiretapping apparatus to the Defense and Interior ministers. “Nobody could object the implementation of the law, and at the same time the officer present in the Telecom Ministry should be dismissed,” he said.
Jumblatt said it would be beneficial to return to the atmosphere that preceded the Nahr al-Bared battle between Fatah al-Islam and the LAF in the summer of 2007 and the violence that took place on Miateyn Street in Tripoli in which the security services cooperated to ensure stability.
