Geagea for Combating Illegal Wiretapping of Telephones
Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea on Wednesday called for combating illegal wiretapping of telephone calls that is responsible for political assassinations.
Geagea, addressing a press conference at his residence in Meerab, said "some of my telephone discussions with Saad Hariri, ex-President Amin Gemayel and Butros Harb appear the next day in some newspapers, specifically in al-Akhbar and as-Safir."
"Illegal wiretapping played a role in all assassinations and should be combated," Geagea declared.
He criticized the behavior adopted by MPs representing south Lebanon regarding the Council for South Lebanon”s budget.
"The Council for South Lebanon has become a republic by itself that follows no authority. Its job is to take money from the state treasury," Geagea added.
He urged Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri to proceed with a proposal by MP Ali Hassan Khalil to call off "all councils and the Lebanese Forces bloc would vote in favor of this bill."
Geagea criticized siphoning "billions from such funds to finance election campaigns."
