No Stopping International Tribunal
Former intelligence chief and Ambassador Johnny Abdo confirmed that the investigation into the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri had reached a “critical criminal accusation” stage.
In an interview with Future News on Wednesday night, Abdo said the tribunal would do its task “boldly” and apolitically and would hunt down all those who had planned and implemented the 2005 car bombing that killed Hariri, Minister Bassil Fuleihan and 22 others.
“Everything we repeatedly said about the results of investigations creating an earthquake I repeat again: it will create an earthquake,” Abdo said.
The former intelligence chief said Syrian President Bashar al-Assad had given “the impression that the four officers were enough and we should look nowhere else… The Special Tribunal will say whether the four officers are innocent or not.”
Abdo said he had no information on arms distribution. “In any case, this distribution will not block the Special Tribunal.”
He also accused Hezbollah of wire-tapping the people “under the rubric of resistance” and said the party did not want dialogue. “Hezbollah is at the table of dialogue for dialogue’s sake only.”
“How can we discuss the defense strategy if they we not agree on the dangers that threaten Lebanon?” he added.
Abdo said March 14 was making a mistake by engaging in Hezbollah’s strategy “because it means we have recognized that Lebanon is the only state of confrontation with Israel.”
