Presidential advisor runs as a candidate in Jbeil
President Michel Sleiman’s advisor, former MP Nazem al-Khoury, announced his candidacy in the Jbeil district for the centrist bloc in the upcoming parliamentary elections. He said that nobody could monopolize the right to run in the elections. “I represent a huge faction of Jbeil’s residents, and this makes [my candidacy] a duty,” he said.
In an interview with al-Mustaqbal daily, he said the “calculated attack” by some politicians against the centrist candidates was “inappropriate” and did not reflect any goodwill to develop political life in the country.
Khoury added he would resign from his position as the president’s advisor once he officially announced his candidacy to keep Sleiman out of any electoral battles.
