If Power Shifts to March 8 Forces There Would Be Historic Mistakes
Maronite Patriarch Nasrallah Sfeir has expressed worries about some attempts to remove President Michel Suleiman and "replace him."
"If power shifts to March 8 Forces, historic mistakes would be committed on the national level," he said in an interview with al-Massira magazine.
"The centrist (political) bloc is subject to a strong local and regional campaign. This bloc would bring equilibrium to political stagnation" in the country, he said.
The Patriarch said deep divisions among Christians in Lebanon was reflecting negatively on their well being, adding that the Christians are the only sect in the country that do not control their differences.
Sfeir criticized the presence of armed groups outside state control.
"Every self respecting state must be responsible for the arms within it," he said.
