Syrian-Iranian Alliance Transformed Lebanon into Arena for Regional Conflicts
Member of the March 14 alliance’s general secretariat, Michel Mouawad, said during a lecture at the University of Sydney on Saturday that Lebanon’s history was based on a culture of life not death, democracy not illegitimate weapons, and the state not the state within the state.
He added that the Syrian-Iranian alliance had transformed Lebanon into an arena for regional and international conflicts, and it was using Hezbollah to implement its objectives and to achieve its plans on the basis of a policy of assassinations.
He said that the May events proved that Hezbollah’s weapons were used domestically and not only against Israel. He noted that Ahmad Gebril’s group, working under the supervision of Syria, was responsible for the rocket-launching from South Lebanon toward northern Israel.
“Syria makes the final decision about Palestinian arms outside the refugee camps,” he said.
He called on the free world to put pressure on Syria in order to implement United Nations Security Council resolutions, to accept border demarcation with Lebanon, to acknowledge that the Shebaa Farms are part of Lebanese territory, to stop the smuggling of weapons and to solve the issue of Lebanese detainees in Syrian prisons.
