General Aoun Boycotts “St. Maroun” Mass
Even though the marking of St Maroun constitutes an opportunity for inter-Christian reunion, MP Michel Aoun, decided not to attend the mass claiming he has a meeting with his electoral machine to launch his campaign all over Lebanon.
Aoun’s decision was a clear response to Maronite Patriarch Mar Nasrallah Boutros Sfeir’s recent statement in which he warned against the transfer of parliament majority to “March 8” which would have negative repercussions on the Lebanese in general and the Christians in particular.
St-Maroun, a religious day in Lebanon was presided by Lebanon’s Maronite Patriarch in downtown Gemayzeh. Aoun’s privately-owned OTV broadcast said the mass was held for the same occasion in Syria.
