Special Tribunal Not Politicized but Attempts to Obstruct It Exist
Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea called on mass participation from his supporters at the commemoration of the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri on February 14.
“The commemoration of the Hariri assassination is not just for the Hariri family… the way he was assassinated makes it a commemoration of the assassination of the late presidents Renee Mouawad and Bachir Gemayel, the [Sunni Mufti] Hassan Khaled and [late Progressive Socialist Party leader] Kamal Jumblat [who were assassinated at different periods during the Lebanese civil war 1975-1990] who gave their lives to secure Lebanon’s freedom and stability.”
Geagea told reporters in Maarab on Tuesday that “there is no possibility of politicizing the Special Tribunal but there are attempts to obstruct it.”
On the disruption of a studio in the LBC TV station, he said, “Security forces showed off their muscles at [LBC], but we will show off ours in the courts of law.”
“There is a link between the resignation of the Journalist May Chidiac, and the pressures exerted on the LBC security officer Charbel Akl and his colleagues,” he said.
Geagea expressed his full support for the Lebanese army and said that “we rely only on the Lebanese army.”
“We should not allow the intervention of any foreign influence in Lebanon again,” he concluded.
