March 8 victory brings Syrian and Iranian hegemony to power
MP Boutros Harb said Syrian and Iranian hegemony would return to Lebanon if March 8 coalition won the majority in the upcoming parliamentary elections. Speaking in an interview with al-Mustaqbal daily on Wednesday, he also noted that such a victory would give legitimate cover to the opposition and would weaken the Lebanese army and state in Hezbollah’s favor.
Harb stressed the important role of the Christians, especially the Maronites, and called on them embrace their role in the elections. According to him, undermining the Christian role would reflect negatively on Lebanon and expose the country to danger.
March 14 member also criticized Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun’s behavior and said he could not accept any stance opposed to his position. Explaining Aoun’s reactions, he said Aoun issued “inappropriate” accusations, which highlighted his rejection of democratic values. Thereby, he noted the contradiction between FPM’s principles and its Memorandum of Understanding with Hezbollah, Syria and Iran. He said this MoU shocked the Lebanese, especially Batroun citizens.
As for 14 February 14 rally, Harb called on all Lebanese to participate in the commemoration of former Prime Minister Rafic Hariri’s assassination on February 14. He pointed out that “this occasion symbolizes our continued efforts to establish a free and independent Lebanese state, ending previous guardianship and the Lebanese crisis”.
