Sfeir: “Bkirki Belongs To Christians”
Maronite Patriarch Nasrallah Sfeir said that the patriarchy did not belong to him or any of his predecessors. “The patriarchy is yours,” Sfeir said, as he addressed the Lebanese Diaspora Maronite League at its meeting on Wednesday.
Former Minister Michel Eddé and Interior Minister Ziad Baroud attended the meeting as well.
Sfeir said he hoped the Lebanese would remain true, as the patriarchy relied on their views and work.
Baroud in turn said his ministry was making efforts to deal with Lebanese emigrants’ rights through reviewing their files to provide them with Lebanese nationality, as well as their right to vote.
“President Michel Sleiman recommended that Article 114 of the electoral law include a clear mechanism for emigrants’ voting, which would be applicable in the 2013 parliamentary elections,” Baroud said. He added that his ministry would then send the list of eligible voters to the Foreign Ministry, which, in turn, would ship them to Lebanese embassies worldwide.
