Nobody can stop the Special Tribunal
French Ambassador in Lebanon André Parant told As-Safir newspaper on Wednesday that justice and peace should be achieved in Lebanon, adding that nobody could stop the Special Tribunal for the assassination of the former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri.
Parant said he hoped that the upcoming parliamentary elections will be held on time without any tension, and he explained that the national dialogue needs time to reach an agreement, because the discussed issues are sensitive and hard.
He added that France is committed to the implementation of the resolution 1701 of the Security Council of the UN and supports the sovereignty of Lebanon, its independence and its freedom as well as its position in the Arab world. He ensured that his country treats all Lebanese equally, regardless of their political affiliations.
On the Israeli elections, Parant said no party had interest in encouraging a confrontation which could be tragic for Lebanon and the area.
He concluded that the French-Syrian relations cannot be affected by the Libano-Syrian relations, and says “France and Syria have interests [mutual]”, and should be able to discuss their common issues.
