France Hopes to See Hariri Killers in Court
French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner on Friday said Paris "hopes more than ever before" that suspects in the 2005 assassination of ex-Premier Rafik Hariri would be tried by the international tribunal.
Kouchner recalled that France has been throughout the past four years backing the Lebanese authorities and the U.N. commission probing the Hariri killing and related crimes.
"France supports the launching of the international tribunal on March 1st and would back the tribunal."
France, he added, hopes that the atmosphere of calm and dialogue that started with the Doha Accord on May 21 would persist allowing for holding the general elections on June 7 in an atmosphere of stability and democracy."
