March 14 Will Not Submit To Obstructing Third, Again

Future movement MP Jamal Jarrah stressed the “importance of carrying on the coming elections in one day….which was agreed upon and adopted by the parliament,” adding that certain [Lebanese political] forces may try to block this from happening if “they felt they were losing during the first day.”

Following a meeting with the head of the Lebanese Forces Samir Geagea in Maarab on Tuesday, he said that the “Future movement is keen on maintaining contact with Geagea at all the political stages.”

Jarrah also denounced the attacks on participants of the Feb. 14 commemoration of the Prime Minister Rafik Hariri assassination, and said that Geagea called for the Lebanese to maintain calmness and to let the state security forces and the Lebanese army handle such issues.

In reference to a statement Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah made while addressing supporters during the party’s commemoration of slain leaders on Monday that if they won the majority in the coming elections they would grant the minority the obstructing third, Jarrah said, the movement would allow whoever won the majority to form the cabinet and take responsibility, but if “they[opposition] won we would not participate in the cabinet as the Future bloc leader MP Saad Hariri has declared .”

“This is the final stance of the March 14 forces. We will not submit to the obstructing third, because the today the cabinet is blocked and incapable of taking any fateful decision because of it.”

On Nasrallah’s comment that the Resistance may possess anti-aircraft weaponry and the possibility of using it against Israel, Jarrah said, “we hope that this talk about using anti-aircraft weaponry was within the defense strategy, and under the supervision of the state.”
