Saniora Enjoys the Backing of All Lebanese
A delegation from the March 14 general secretariat on Saturday stressed its support to Premier Fouad Saniora and denounced verbal attacks on the prime minister.
"In the name of all personalities and March 14 forces we denounce this attitude (against Saniora) … We urge Speaker (Nabih) Berri to clarify this issue. We totally reject to address the prime minister outside constitutional norms," March 14 general secretariat coordinator Fares Soaid said.
His remarks came after Berri reportedly called Finance Minister Mohammed Shatah "a liar like his master" over the Council of the South issue.
Saniora has the backing of "all of Lebanon," Soaid stressed after the delegation”s visit to the premier at the Grand Serail.
"If there are remarks to the government”s performance headed by PM Saniora, the cabinet should be held accountable as part of the constitutional framework," he said.
There are "programmed" plans for agitation against the government, Soaid said. "There is agitation on the security level and on the political level."
"It seems some are saying that this government is not capable of governing the country”s affairs. But this cabinet, which enjoys the trust of the Lebanese and the trust of the majority in parliament, will stay in its position in governing the executive issues of the Lebanese," Soaid stressed in the name of the delegation.
