Central Security Council to Deal Firmly with Those Who Target Civil Peace

The Central Security Council on Saturday decided to upgrade the deployment of the army and security forces in all regions, stressing the Lebanese Armed Forces will be strict with violators of the law.

Media reports said the Council decided "to increase the number of troops and security forces in all Lebanese regions, particularly Beirut and Mount Lebanon, and ordered the LAF to deal firmly with any violation of law and disturbance of civil peace."

The Council meeting, presided by Interior Minister Ziad Baroud, also decided to set up a permanent office at the ministry to deal with election complaints.

The office will start functioning as soon as its members from various political sides have been appointed.

The Council also discussed the latest security incidents, including the killing of Progressive Socialist Party member Lutfi Zeineddine in an attack last Saturday.

It was also informed that 125 people involved in attacks and riots last Saturday were arrested and handed over to the judiciary.

The conferees also talked about bomb attacks on several offices of Lebanese political parties in the past few days.

The Council lauded all political parties in their efforts to help security and military apparatuses to carry out their tasks.

In an interview with al-Manar TV on Friday, Baroud said: "Recent incidents are all connected to the election campaign. All this is happening by those who wish to maintain instability."

He added that he is studying with Defense Minister Elias Murr a plan that would require the availability of 30,000 security elements. Baroud said that this force is ready.
