Fifteen Suspects in Feb. 14 Attacks Still in Custody

Security forces are still holding 15 suspects out of 120 in connection to the February 14 assaults, the pan-Arab al-Hayat daily reported Sunday.

The paper said only nine of the 15 "participated in the deadly assault on Lutfi Zeineddine" following the February 14 rally to mark the assassination of ex-premier Rafik Hariri. The remaining six took part in separate attacks, it reported.

Separately, the army arrested three people involved in confrontation between supporters of the Amal Movement and Kurdish groups last week.

On Saturday, the Council for Central Security held an extraordinary meeting headed by Interior Minister Ziad Baroud to discuss the recent hike in violence. The council decided "not to link recent security-related incidents, including the murder of MEA pilot Ghassan Miqdad and the explosion of several hand grenades, with the upcoming parliamentary elections," the paper said.

The council also decided to continue boosting the deployment of security and military forces across Lebanon, especially in Beirut and Mount Lebanon. It warned that the security forces will not treat lightly any breach of law or any threat to civil peace.
