Lebanon Uncovers Romanian Network Stealing Credit Card Data
Security services said Thursday they uncovered the operations of a Romanian ring involved in hacking credit card accounts in European countries and using them in the Middle East.
The General Directorate for State Security said in a communiqué that two women and one man "stole the credit card data from European countries, including Britain and France, and used the information mostly in Middle Eastern countries."
The gang withdrew large amounts of cash from ATM machines in the region, the directorate said, without saying which countries.
The two women were seized after security forces raided a tourist resort in Jounieh, north of Beirut. The authorities are still trying to locate the whereabouts of the man.
