March 14 Will Concede To Special Tribunal’s Verdict
MP Boutros Harb said in an interview with Al-Mustaqbal newspaper on Monday that the Special Tribunal for Lebanon would ensure justice and confirmed that the March 14 alliance would be committed to the court’s verdict.
Harb said he hoped the tribunal would restore democracy to Lebanese politics and would put an end to assassinations, which he said were a tool to express political views. He said the court “deserves our trust,” adding that no deal would be made at the expense of justice.
Harb also said he had information that some political parties were betting on prospective assassinations to facilitate their victory in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
He told the paper that the tribunal would take time, and any presumptive verdict was unlikely to be issued before the elections.
Harb said bad relations between Saudi Arabia and Syria had nothing to do with the court, and he added that “Saudi-Syrian relations are unlikely to be affected by the court, unless Damascus [reconsiders its position] and approves putting suspects at the tribunal’s disposal.”
