Syrian Intervention in Up-Coming Elections Evident
Minister of State Wael Abu Faour stated that Syrians were intervening in and hindering the upcoming Lebanese parliamentary elections, al-Sharq al-Awsat daily reported on Wednesday. He told the paper Syria was directly interfering in the political and security administration of the elections, the formation of the electoral lists and the building of alliances.
The minister pointed out that there was a joint fund for the elections administered by Damascus and to which several regional states contributed. He said he did not believe Syria’s promises that it would allow the Lebanese elections to be held calmly and peacefully, adding his stand was based on facts known by the majority.
