Salwa el-Qatreeb Bids Lebanon Farewell at 59
Veteran Lebanese singer and theater actress Salwa al-Qatreeb passed away Wednesday in Hotel Dieu Hospital, where she has been in a coma for the past week after suffering sudden brain hemorrhage, her family said. She was 59 years old.
Qatreeb was renowned for having a divine voice and was nicknamed "the lady of theater" after conquering the Lebanese and Arab arenas as an innovative and bold performer in 1974.
Some of Qatreeb”s most famous musical plays include "Sanaqif, Sanaqif" with singer Tony Hanna and Bint el-Jabal" with actor Antoine Kerbaj.
She is survived by her husband Nahi Lahoud and an only daughter Aline Lahoud, also a singer. Nahi Lahoud is also the brother of Romeo Lahoud, a director and playwright, who directed many of Qatreeb”s plays.
Although Qatreeb had left the limelight long before her death, she is still well remembered and loved by the Lebanese public for her popular songs such as "ala nabei el-may" and "khedni maak."
